Tracing Hernando De Sotoís trail through North America, this site examines a dark period in Native American history, and questions why itís not taught more effectively in U.S. schools. Researchers have long poured over the journals of those on the journey, but this hefty history has a new approach. The author has painstakingly traced De Soto's trail, revising the official version with new data and a more modern appreciation for Native American cultures. De Soto was given just four years to conquer North America; starting off in Florida in 1539, his army headed to Lake Michigan, then down to Texas. De Soto died along the way. This is also an analysis of the roots of European racism toward the people they found in the New World.
